Getting up at 5am isn’t one of them

I’m a big fan of Robin Sharma. I subscribe to his newsletter, follow him on social media and watch his YouTube videos. I also loved his book The Greatness Guide, but I initially resisted reading his more recent book The 5 AM Club because — like a lot of people — 5am is a time I only want to be seeing if I have a really good reason (it’s usually a 6am flight to somewhere I really want to go).

A book that suggests waking up at 5 am (every morning) as a way to maximize productivity isn’t really my cup of tea. I’m a huge advocate for sleep, and I believe most of us should be aiming for more of it, not less.

I gave in though, because I love Sharma as an author and commentator, and I knew he’d have some pearls of wisdom in there. The reference to 5am in the title was off-putting, but I decided to just gloss over it, which was surprisingly easy. Maybe because this isn’t really a book about getting up early. It’s a book about maximising your time and gaining mental clarity, and I’m all for that.

Here are my key takeaways from The 5 AM Club.

Use The Victory Hour well (it just doesn’t have to be 5–6 am)
