THE ADHD MIND
From Due Dates To Do Dates
How to hack your brain to beat procrastination
As someone who is living with ADHD, I’ve struggled with procrastination for as long as I can remember.
From homework when I was a student, to projects after I started my corporate career, I’ve always struggled with getting things started on time, although I have managed to somehow always complete my tasks by the required deadline.
But it’s the getting started that has been a constant struggle for me which has always left me with unnecessary stress and anxiety; mainly due to the fact I only always get started once the deadline is super near.
However, I’ve found a way to change things up a bit where due dates now become do dates.
It’s not a perfect solution, but one that has helped me tremendously in tackling my procrastination habits.
Let’s dive into it.
Tell yourself a little white lie
I realised that I do my best to beat procrastination once I’ve procrastinated long enough.
For example, something needs to be done and I have a month to do it. I would only really get started once I have less than a few days left to the deadline.
