Nobody’s inherently creative.

You weren’t born a writer and your ideas aren’t even your own.

Picasso didn’t arrive on Earth knowing he’d be the father of cubism. Leonardo Da Vinci didn’t know he’d one day create the most famous painting ever. Lady Gaga may have been born this way, but baby Stefani wasn’t more creative than the next one.

Creativity comes to us in waves. What separates creative people from the masses is their ability to accept ideas as they come to them.

Anybody can enhance their creativity. Here’s how.

Be a vessel

Ideas are feathers in the wind.

If an idea decides to visit you, but you aren’t there to answer the door, it’ll simply float to another house.

Elizabeth Gilbert says this in her novel, Big Magic:

“Ideas are disembodied, energetic life-forms. They are completely separate from us, but capable of interacting, with us — albeit strangely…Ideas are driven by a single impulse: to be made manifest.
