I was sixteen years old and about to graduate high school.

And as any high-school movie can teach you, there’s bound to be drama right before graduation day.

In the movies, this drama often comes in the form of girls and bullies.

Well, color me yellow and call my life a movie, because the story of my school graduation had both.

I was dating a beautiful girl at the time.

For the purpose of anonymity, we’ll call her Rania.

Now Rania was beautiful — but she was also more than a little edgy. She had been in and out of state institutions by the time she was in her teens and was your classic rebellious girl with a mean streak.

But this mean streak didn’t extend to those whom she thought were outcasts. Rania was very kind that way.

Unfortunately — and I’m going to make a harsh but truthful point here — some people are left out for a reason.

I don’t mean the people who got bullied for the way they dressed or looked. My heart goes out…
