I still remember a time when a person’s private life was exactly that — private.
This was back in the late 80s and early 90s when I was still a kid and there was no such thing as social media.
The only sources of media you had were either from the TV, radio or the newspaper — which weren’t as vast as they are now.
One would say life was a whole lot simpler then.
But once the age of the internet came about, people were no longer as coy about their personal or private lives any longer.
Blogs became a thing where people would share their most intimate thoughts on the internet (I was one of them) — things that previously would only be meant for a personal diary that people would take to their graves.
While the intimacy of information shared created a whole new way relationships were built on, it also created another thing — a stronger form of self-consciousness.
People became more self-conscious and cared a lot more about what others thought of them.
