I’d rather read a couple of pages from the words of a man who died 2,000 years ago than ever take advice from an internet self-help guru.

The whole premise of modern self-help/improvement can trace back its roots to the original writings of some of Greece’s first philosophers.

Nowadays, they’ve just lost the original message of these words. They try to put their own modern spin on it. The result is abdominal. A bunch of barely useful jargon that has been recycled a million times by the countless gurus out there.

Philosophy, when it started in Ancient Greece, was about practicality. As my favorite writer of philosophy on this platform Steven Gambardella writes “Philosophy is trying to understand the world and our place in it…philosophy is about having the vision to change the world.”

Ancient Greece did this the best. And it’s through these concepts and words that we can better get a grip on this tumultuous existence.
