Please, Grieve As Long As You Need To

Thoughts about dead dreams and dead people.

--

“I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.”
Banksy

Banskey was wrong.

What about all the “deaths” in between?

The death of a relationship or an opportunity.

The loss of a home or health.

The death of a dream.

As far as dreams are concerned, I’m three deaths in.

I read a book called Overlap a while ago.

(The author disappeared from the Internet. If you find him, let me know.)

Either way, I recall a passage that (and I’m paraphrasing) went something like this:

“What you’re doing now almost certainly isn’t what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life…But in order to get to Thing #5 (the thing you’ll do forever), you have to go through Thing #1–4.”

This hit me so hard at the time because I knew it was true.
