Tim Ferriss is one of my unofficial mentors.

Recently on his podcast, he talked to Cal Newport about The 4-Hour Work Week. This book — despite its clickbaity title — is one of the most important in the self-help space. It’s helped countless entrepreneurs get closer to their dream lives.

During the conversation, they discuss productivity. And they go deep. Tim defines the concept and Cal shares a new lens through which to view one’s work.

The latter has the potential to change your life forever.

“What you do is more important than how you do it”

Tim Ferriss: “We have to define productivity carefully. (We don’t want to) become the greyhound chasing the rabbit around a track, not knowing why we’re there in the first place…

“The thrust of The 4-Hour Workweek is what you do is more important than how you do it.

“Put another way, being effective is more important than being efficient.”

A practical takeaway: Think about this question from Gary Keller. “What’s the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”
