2021 has been a crazy year.

After being stuck in Albania during the pandemic, I finally escaped in February. I thought my life would improve dramatically, but I ended up facing plenty more misadventures, random fiascos, and recurring issues.

Yet the bad taught me a lot more than the good.

I want to share the most truthful and harsh life lessons I learned this year. These aren’t the jolly optimistic ones you usually see—and they might even be controversial—but the truth, while painful, ultimately gives you freedom.

At the end of this article, I’ll tie all of these together and explain how you can take this information and thrive in 2022.

1. Not Everything Happens For a Reason

There’s a quote you often see in the self-help world:

“Everything happens for you, not to you.”
