The Peter Pan Play Gone Horribly Wrong
This actually happened.
This is a true story — and perhaps a lesson on knowing your limits.
Jack Hitt attended a local screening of the play Peter Pan in his small town. A local woman had dreamed of directing a play. She stubbornly decided to do so without consulting with anyone.
It brought about a hilariously bad screening.
You might remember Peter Pan
The opening scene involves three kids sleeping in a bed and Peter Pan comes flying through the window. He gives the kids a speech and says, “Anyone can fly!”
He sprinkles dust on the kids and they start floating.
As Jack Hitt sat in the crowd watching this scene unfold, he realized very quickly that this would be a problematic play.
During this scene, rather than have the kids slowly pulled up to float upwards, and then all about like a butterfly, they were all yanked up in one jerk.
They dangled from the rope like rag dolls. Each of them was hanging at various angles, head down, sideways, head up. One was spinning in place.
