The Photo That Encapsulates Everything I Love About Living in Small European Apartments

In defense of small but beautiful (and peaceful) living spaces

This is my home right now. It was for 5 months early last year too, in a largely unknown Spanish town called Logroño, Northern Spain.

It’s relatively small, you can see that. The bedroom is next to the living room. An open-plan kitchen, bathroom, and smaller second bedroom lurks behind the camera.

And I love it all — much more than I ever loved my 3 bedroomed house back in the UK.

Because there’s a lot of joy to be found in 400 square feet (or less).

It’s the peace of an uncluttered room

When it’s not being rented to us by our friends, the apartment is on Airbnb, so a lack of clutter comes as standard.

But unlike many Airbnbs, this one has been decorated thoughtfully. There is still art on the walls, there are plants, there are blankets and there is a smattering of books.

What there is not, is excess. Every piece of furniture, every item in here serves its purpose and is used nearly every day.
