This is Exactly Why You Hate Zoom

It has to do with more than just your preferences.

I have never been a Facetime person, nor a fan of Skype, for that matter. More often than not, when my phone rings, I will stare at it until it stops vibrating and then proceed to text the caller a semi-concerned, “What’s up?

I have always hated video calls and not even a worldwide quarantine can change that — but I’ve never really understood why, until now.

You see, it goes deeper than just my preferences: the reason for my natural dislike towards video chats lies at the core of my character traits as well as basic social psychology.

As isolation restrictions ease across North America, social distancing remains encouraged, and working from home is more popular than ever — meaning the video chat pandemonium is here to stay.

After a bit of research, I was able to put my finger exactly what it is that makes us cringe when invited to a Zoom chatroom…and how to avoid that feeling.

It’s Just Too Much

Since the beginning of worldwide quarantine, tons of articles have been published on this topic and they all come to the same conclusion: virtual hangouts offer too much information about ourselves and not enough about the others.
