POETRY/LOVE/RELATIONSHIP
Baby
Poetry is for lovers
Baby, you have my heart even when I don’t say it
I long for you even when you don’t know it
I need your love even if I don’t show it
I seek you out even when you don’t notice
I am a simple man of brain and brawn
Complex emotions are unfathomable to me
But your tenderness I cannot withstand
You may not understand my dear
That you are the one true weakness I have
All that gruff and brush
Steely eyes and hard stares
Are but a defense for my softened heart
That I be not taken for granted and heartbroken again
I long to crawl in with you on the sofa
And rest my head in your lap
While I watch the mix of emotions
On your beautiful bewildered face
Those lovely eyes staring down at me in confused surprise
But honey it’s a battle within
I don’t trust enough to open my heart
Fear of heartbreak and rejection
Send me into myself and safely behind steel doors
Because emotions I do not understand
