Follow Your North Star

Dream the impossible dream, and go where it leads you!

“Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.” — Viktor Frankl

MMan of La Mancha rocked Broadway in 1966 with its thundering theme song, THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM.

It opens in soft reflection…

“To dream the impossible dream… To fight the unbeatable foe…” but then it defies mortal gravity to rise heavenward on a column of fury like a rocket.

Wise men and women follow their North Star because they believe the destination will be worth the journey.

Can you name your current journey?

Are you pursuing your impossible dream?

What’s the mission that points you north…the passionate obsession that guides, serves and inspires your heart to sing?

According to Aristotle, “Where your talents and the needs of the world cross lies your calling.”

And your “calling”, or what I prefer to call your NORTH STAR is what I’d like to discuss with you right now.

Each of us follows a star. How clearly can you see yours?

By now, you’re well aware that I’m committed to helping individuals and organizations achieve the things they have committed to do.

You choose the star. My job is to get you there.

Polaris is known as the North Star. It has served as a navigational tool for millennia because unlike other stars, its position NEVER changes.

That’s right…the North Star never changes…it never moves…it sits up in the heavens, shines brightly and beckons you to come and get it.

Can you name the star that beckons you?

If you’ll allow me, I’d like to help you achieve your impossible dream.

We all have great ideas and dreams of what we could be, do and have. Yes?

Perhaps you have something you’d love to do with your life.

Would you like to travel to exotic places and lead wild adventures?

Have you have dreamed of touching people’s lives in a meaningful way?

Do you you have a passion, something far different than what you’re currently doing…and have settled for?

What happened to those dreams, that sense of excitement, that calling to do more with your life?

Dreams ignite your spirit, and rekindle your thirst for life. They can and do help point you north which is the only direction worth moving.

Just as Columbus used the North Star to navigate his ships across the oceans, you too can use your own personal North Star to navigate yourself in the direction of your dreams.

Why do some people follow their North Star?

Why do some, as the Apple Computer ads say, Think Different?

How do you begin to live your dreams and courageously move ahead in the direction of your destiny…your true North Star?

Here are a few practical steps….

Step 1: Ask Yourself a Few Important Questions

The clock is ticking and additional opportunities are lost if you do not stop, ask, and most importantly answer these questions.

Once answered you must set fundamental priorities to take the actions and risks necessary that bring the answers to life — fast.

1. Who am I?

2. Why do I exist?

3. What specifically do I want?

4. What am I trying to accomplish in the years that are left to me?

5. What am I prepared to do to achieve it?

6. What am I afraid of…why am I so resistant to move forward?

6. When will I find the courage to begin following my North Star?

Step 2: Believe in Yourself

Right now, at this very moment…you either believe or disbelieve that it is possible for you to live the life you’ve always imagined.

Be bold and the mighty forces of life will be with you. Lock those North Star coordinates into your mind and keep your eye on the prize.

One of the greatest lessons you’ll learn in life is to have faith that what you want…also wants you!

Step 3: Take Action — Create a Sense of Urgency

The chances of you capturing your North Star without taking action is like thinking you can win the lottery without buying a ticket.

You’re playing a high stakes game of one and done…therefore you must take action, challenge yourself and create a sense of emergency in all that you do.

Polaris is called the “North Star” because its position in the sky defines the direction of true North. Whenever you want to figure out where North is…all you have to do is find this star.

The only direction worth moving is north…onward and upward in the direction of your big goals and crazy dreams.

By setting your sights on your North Star…you give your life hope, meaning and a powerful reason to make the most of it!
