There Is No Substitute For Victory

--

“Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time.” — Vince Lombardi

When General Douglas MacArthur said, “There is no substitute for victory”, he was not trying to quip or to merely stress importance; he literally meant that there was an existential threat to the American way of life and that no alternative other than complete Allied victory would suffice.

While most of us will never face the bloody horrors of war, each one of us WILL find ourselves in situations where anything other than victory would mean lost opportunity, demoralization, and potentially disastrous ruin.

  • The big sale that falls through and goes to your competitor.
  • The book deal for your novel does not receive the green light.
  • The missed basket or putt that results in someone else becoming Champion.
  • The freedoms being taken away without a fight, freedoms that others have paid the ultimate price for.

There are times in life where we cannot choose to give up, give in, rollover, or tap out.
