MEET M/O/M

Lately we’ve found ourselves running into old friends who ask “What’s this ‘Mind Over Model’ that I see popping up all over my social media?” Whether you’ve seen our name shared through a friend-of-a-friends’ Facebook feed, on pins of backstage at fashion week or in snaps captured for Instagram, we’re happy you found us here. If you’re still a little confused as to who we are and what we do, this is our breakdown for you. Enjoy!

Mind Over Model is:

1. A resource for young models starting out in the industry:
   Mind Over Model was created out of a need for us, Madison and Addison, to see positive changes in the modeling industry. When we started, there were so many times that we felt like we were thrown into a completely new world with little to no direction or understanding about what we were getting ourselves into. Our goal is that what we share with the next generation of models informs them and elevates them to success more than we could have imagined for ourselves, and (most importantly!) that these models continue to support each other and share what they’ve learned. This is what we wish we had — in one cool, intelligent, fashionable place.
2. A guide for models moving forward from the industry:
   We both took breaks from modeling and have a deep understanding of how difficult it can be to transition out of the industry and into a new chapter in your life. We can’t possibly be the only ones who had trouble finding who we are without the title of ‘model’ to snuggle up with; without the daily assurance we are okay, good enough…pretty. What helped us heal included writing about our challenges and triumphs — so anyone currently going through what we did doesn’t feel alone. Many of our articles share our experiences with re-learning self-worth — understanding that possessing beauty is not a privilege, but an inherent part of being human; alive. We now understand we must never limit the definition of ourselves by simply saying we are models.

1. A place for anyone interested in learning about the fashion and modeling industries:
   We write all of our content to be relatable for every person. We write truthfully, thoughtfully, and purposefully. We aim to educate young people on the industry and open them up to a world that is often over-glamourized and difficult to break into. Something that we discuss often is how closed off and distant high-ups in the fashion industry can be. The industry is so competitive that tension can be heavy — looming is the ever-present fear of someone younger and fresher coming to take your place. We want this to change. With Mind Over Model, we know that what we have to share is valuable, but also that it’s very unique to who we are and our own experiences — we aren’t afraid of anyone taking our positions. We are thrilled, simply, to have a place to share what we love about the industry. Our leverage here is our access, honesty, and empathy. We’re young — let’s grow together.
2. A place to share about people who inspire us, and things we love:
   We created the “M/O/M Squad” when we found that we had so many great friends in the industry who also had messages to share. Meaningful relationships — with people we admire, icons we look up to, and brands we see something in — are especially important to us. Having been in the industry for years, we’ve tried and tested hundreds of advice and products regarding skincare, beauty, and fashion. We know what we love, and we know the feeling that comes with loving the people behind the brands. Here on M/O/M we’re about sharing our truthful, real-life advice on what products legitimately work. We aren’t into see-through, one-time collaborations with brands that aren’t relevant to our beliefs and what we actually use. That doesn’t make us different, and above all, helpful to you. What we hope to carve out is the evolution — of us, of incredible brands, and our journey in fashion together. The M/O/M Squad is the place to gain industry insight from our amazingly talented mosaic of friends who want to share their perspective. Maybe, one day, you’ll see your name here!
3. Always Changing:
   Mind Over Model is such a huge part of us — there is so much overlap that it’s difficult to separate who we are as individuals and what we’ve created as Mind Over Model. As we grow, we know that Mind Over Model will grow with us, beyond us, and with you. Throughout this, we’ll continue to support this industry and the amazing people that make it what it is.

With our awkward, flailing dance moves and years of experience in the industry, we want to continue to carve out a space to celebrate everything about the fashion and modeling industries that made us who we are today. This creative wonderland has shaped us, taught us, and empowered us beyond imagination — we want to ensure you have the tools you need to experience the same, without the rough spots.
