Transparency is at the core of the way Mozilla operates. From the way we write our notices to how we speak publicly about our activities, the Mozilla legal team has always been committed to this principle. Today, I’m happy to announce our first annual legal retrospective.

Who we are.

The Mozilla legal team supports every one of Mozilla’s engineering, product, marketing and operational teams to address legal and regulatory challenges. In addition, we also help to further Mozilla’s mission through various engagements targeted at protecting all the Internet ecosystem and its users.

What we did.

In 2016, we negotiated and closed roughly 50 strategic deals and 1,200 vendor agreements. We also handled over 400 product-related issues, ranging from data privacy to IP, regulatory issues. Finally, we helped solve more than 1,000 operational issues (including employment, immigration and corporate issues).

A few highlights of our year:

Next year, we hope to continue focusing on getting our clients to their goals faster, better, and more efficiently. We are also expecting to see increasing engagement on external issues around Internet Health.
