Well, let’s dive into the definition, historical background, and the importance of studying this concept.

Think of Cognitive Dissonance as the feeling you get when your favorite ice cream flavor is sold out, but you still want it badly. This is a simple example of conflicting beliefs and desires causing a mental discomfort. Similarly, Cognitive Dissonance refers to the discomfort experienced when a person holds two or more conflicting beliefs, values, or ideas. It’s that nagging feeling of uncertainty and discomfort that arises from conflicting thoughts and behaviors.

An example of cognitive dissonance that is often considered controversial is the phenomenon known as climate change denial. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence pointing to the reality of human-caused climate change, some individuals continue to deny its existence.
