Who is hosting innovation challenges?
This is the first time we are releasing data on which industries are the most active hosts of innovation challenges on MindSumo. We also break down which types of challenges they’re posting — R&D, Marketing/Insights, or General Innovation.
Comment below if you have questions or you’d like to see any other data.
TOP 3 INDUSTRIES: Food & Beverage, Technology, Consumer Goods
Active challenge hosts for projects related to R&D, Product Development, and Engineering.
We tracked each industry’s activity in these fields as compared to their ranking to the first graph (all challenge types).
BIGGEST GAINS: Travel (+4), Chemical (+3), Manufacturing (+2). Outside of travel, no surprises here. Chemical and Manufacturing are driven by engineering.
BIGGEST LOSSES: Education & Public Admin. (-3), Media & Entertainment (-3), Professional Services (-2). These three sectors rely much less on engineering and R&D, so this makes sense as well.
Active challenge hosts for projects related to Marketing, Consumer Insights, and Market Research.
Again, we tracked each industry’s activity in these fields as compared to their ranking to the first graph (all challenge types).
BIGGEST GAINS: Finance & Banking (+3), Media & Entertainment (+3), Automotive (+2). All three of these industries are grappling to understand consumer behavior in rapidly changing markets.
BIGGEST LOSSES: Manufacturing (-6), Education & Public Admin. (-3), Technology (-2). Perhaps manufacturers are overlooking user experience?
Active challenge hosts for projects related to General Innovation and Strategy.
