VIFF — Ben Is Back
This movie is not for the faint of heart. It is brutal; brutally honest.
I am glad Hollywood has put out a film that is set in an epidemic of our time, the opioid epidemic, that is. The last statistic I read was that we are losing a person every ten minutes worldwide to this terrible addiction. Obviously we need to do something, and fast. Perhaps having it on the big screen will help.
Julia Roberts does a fantastic job of portraying Ben’s mom, the addict in the story (played by Lucas Hedges). He is 19, he has 77 days clean, and is home for Christmas. Everything that happens in this 24 hour period will be relatable to any parent or family who is familiar with the opioid crisis.
