Who am I

I am but a tiny vessel

Entire countries I can destroy

I can ruin lives that last for generations

And crush hope like a plastic toy

Who am I

I am able to change the course of history

Like the whisper of a breath

I have no arms or legs

But possess the power of life and death

Who am I

I am not at all physically sharp

But I wound deeper than a knife

I can leave internal scars that last for years

And with a stroke of a pen, take life

Who am I

I can also change life for the better

Break chains of torment and despair

Wage war on anger, resentment, bitterness

And a depth of love and care

Who am I

I can be a generous giver

And a taker if I think I should

I can run with the best and stand by the rest

I can choose between evil and good

Who am I

Or with a word I can sink a fleet of ships

And many a man from trees I’ve hung

With one word I can change the course of life

And my name is this…
