Objective: Conducted a technology assessment to identify optimization, enhancement and new application acquisition opportunities as well as layout a high-level roadmap.

Background and Solution: To understand the IT environment, Mindboard’s project team developed a high-level overview of various IT systems (SAP, Primevera P6, PowerPlan and other related applications) which allows PSEG LI to facilitate work-load management, financial management & reporting and project management of various scheduled and unscheduled activities.

Simultaneously, the project team conducted interviews with PSEF LI key personnel to gain a high-level understanding of existing business processes, and how the tools aid and/or limiting day-to-day operations. During these data gathering activities, the project team found these IT systems as integrated to provide high-level end-to-end view of the various ongoing and future projects (enabling accurate estimation and forecasting), but also restricting to agency personnel — limiting the analysis of various, detailed operational metrics.

Following data gathering activities, the project team created a list of functional and technical parameters used to identify gaps and assess various technology solutions to achieve operational efficiency and effectiveness. To identify gaps based on PSEG LI current state and industry best practices, the project team divided the defined parameters into three categories:

  • Technology Capabilities
  • Operational Excellence
  • IT Service Delivery

Once these gaps were identified, the project team defined systems, such as such alternative technology solutions that will meet current and future operational needs, ensure technology platform standardization and defined parameters.

Additionally, the project team included financial and operational benefits in an alternative technology analysis. Lastly, the team assigned priority of each parameter and proposed alternative solution to fill the identified gap.
