The energetic power of Mudras
Mindful expressions are those tiny actions that connect us to ourselves through one or more of our 5 senses. Touch, taste, sight, sound, and smells. Coming to our senses brings us into our body and out of the racing thoughts, triggered memories, fears, and anxiety. You can use mudras as a simple, mindful expression to derail the runaway train and bring yourself into a calm moment.
Mudras are one of my favorite mindful expressions. Some say it is yoga for your hands. I don’t know about that, but I know it can instantly create a connection with myself and keep me in a calming moment. It “seals” my connection of grounding myself in the present moment and allows the flow of energy to move through me in full circle.
Each finger is a link to an element — earth, fire, the wind, water, and air. It also connects with an emotion and a part of the body. For example:
- The thumb represents the Fire element and the stomach. It is reactivity and vitality. It can help manage anxieties.
- The index finger joins with the Air element and the respiratory system. It is freedom and transformation. It can help with depression.
