Dear Feelings,

Why do you show up unannounced? A little heads-up would be nice

How would you feel if you were brushing your teeth in your underpants, and someone you don’t know walks into your house?

Scanning the place, taking in the surroundings, suddenly entering your bedroom like they belong.

Each time a strange feeling comes up — that’s how I feel.

This got me thinking — do our feelings create our thoughts or do our thoughts shape how we feel?

So, I went down a rabbit hole and discovered a chart that visually communicates this idea with ease.

Our thoughts create an emotional charge that triggers a physiological reaction in our body (known as feelings), which then influence our actions and behaviours in the long run.

When you dwell on a thought or a negative experience over and over again, it is called overthinking. Constantly ruminating over the misfortunes of the past and uncertainties of the future can leave one feeling anxious, stressed and physically incapable of moving forward.
