On PTSD, Trauma and the Neuroscience of Kundalini Yoga.
Recently, I’ve been really interested in PTSD and the affects of trauma on the brain. As an avid self experimenter, kundalini yoga and meditation practitioner and critical theory and visual culture researcher I combined these three ontological epistemologies to design seminars where I can share and most importantly learn more about as Pumla Gqola authored : Female Fear Factory.
Patriarchy runs on fear: fear of being an outsider, fear of being brutalized and fear of being too much, too inadequate, too vocal or too different. it requires hard work to avoid being an outsider in patriarchal society because it is a system that relies interchangebly on oversimplifying and exagerring the construction of gender and sexual categories. — Chapter 5 : THE FALSE PROMISE OF SAFETY
Growing up in South Africa as a women bodied person required mad psychosocial gymnastics. As the country with the highest rape rate we are trained and conditioned from young girls to be aware of safety. How insane it is to have a young girl have to be concerned and afraid of being sexually asaulted. In anyways we do, we grow up with this throughout our lives dealing with rape culture in many forms. This little girl is no longer a little girl and grows up not as herself. She becomes a fear factory.
