Do I Remember Her?

DO I?

Do I remember the girl I was when I was fifteen years old? Of course, I do. What about you?

Do you remember the person you were at fifteen?

I know you do too.

I remember her because that girl is the same one who lives inside of me right now. That girl’s outer appearance has changed but the inner light hasn’t aged a day. Experiences have added power to her glow but they have never come close to burning a fuse in how strong she illuminates.

I used to puzzle over what happened to that girl, questioning if I was the same one as always. So phenomenal was the thought that it kept me awake nights.

But she’s never left my consciousness, ever, I conjectured, so that girl must be the same ‘I AM’ I am right now.

And I’m right. I know I am.

Mostly because when I questioned myself a voice always assured me: You’re not the outer you, you’re the changeless self that still lives and shines within you. You know her.

I KNOW HER

Once I understood that the changeless ME is the real me, then and only then did I come to accept that the key to my higher power was in that girl. Spiritually, whether I go forward or backward is a matter not of the body but of my internal consciousness.

LET’S TALK ABOUT US NOW

Age shows in our bodies, but in our spiritual-intelligence age never shows. Neither does it become weighed down by more intelligence. The contrary happens — it becomes lighter. Adding a new thought, another action does not add age, neither does holding on to old thoughts. But we must strive to be selective about the thoughts we want to keep.

If we choose to continue filling our conscience with slices of old beliefs that keep us stuck in old habits, we will continue replaying those scenarios. If we uncluttered our minds, make room for new and positive thoughts and beliefs, our subconscious mind rises up to meet it and the thoughts get reflected in how our life unfolds.

In the same vein, if our consciousness grows lighter so does everything in the universe. In essence what this means is that with every positive thought we allow, we are recreating our reality.

Once we recognize ourselves in the light that resides inside, we better understand that we still have a chance to get it right. And the sooner we recognize that if something doesn’t serve the authentic US inside our aging bodies it’s time to discard that ‘something.’

Let’s attract those virtues that we value. Let’s manifest the values we believe in.

In this midpoint in our life, we get one more chance to balance the scales. If we want to reenact dramas in our life, we can, but know that the outcome will continue being the same.

Or, with humility, tenderness, and a sincere desire to get it right we can change the direction of our thoughts.

THE MISTS OF AVALON

I once read a book called The Mists of Avalon, where Avalon represented a mythical island that could only be accessed by boat. It was a magical place where good prevailed. Everyone wanted to get to that place. But Avalon lay completely enveloped in thick mists few dared to travel through. Most approached it in fear and never reached it. True to life wouldn’t you say?

See, one had to believe wholeheartedly that the Island of Avalon existed and that reaching it was worth the risk. By believing in the myth and continuing despite fear of the unknown, the mists started parting until finally, the boat touched land and what was once a myth becomes a reality in the story.

At midlife, we’re at a fork in the road. We can either believe the materialistic aging beliefs handed down to us, in which case we keep going until we die, OR we can believe in an Avalon really existing beyond the mists.

I think it’s time we awaken the spiritual nature of our larger reality.

The Alchemist, the miracle worker, the sorcerer in our sphere is someone who has awaken from the delusions of this world and simply made the choice to live differently; to believe differently; to challenge the delusions.

Believe that midlife is Avalon. Believe that midlife is a magical place in our time here on earth. Believe it and see it materialize.

I do not have all the answers in this journey because I’m not the tour conductor. I’m just another passenger on this journey that’s bringing us closer and closer to a happy island where we’re all spiritually connected.

DEAR READER, I THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THROUGH MY STORY. I KNOW THERE ARE TONS OF OTHER ARTICLES HERE WORTH YOUR WHILE. HOPE THIS ONE RESONATED WITH YOU. A FEW CLAPS WOULD BE NICE 😊 SO OTHERS CAN FIND IT AND BENEFIT FROM IT, PERHAPS? THANKS. I WISH YOU MIRACLES. SELMA.

Writing to help our practice of mindfulness. “We are all walking each other home.” is my favorite quote from Rumi and I believe it to be true. We are all on the journey, some have walked before us, some beside us and others behind. For those we are the guide.
