Somewhere over the Rainbow

Rainbows in Spiritual Symbolism and Mythology

--

I totally love rainbows. We used to live facing castle on a hill and sometimes the rainbows would rise above those stone towers in such splendour, doubles even, and once a triple too.

I always look for one when the weather suggest it is likely. I also love the rainbow reflections in mirror edges and prisms. I think it is the colours, always a fascination and appeal for me.

There is so much mystery and symbolism around rainbows too. They do have such an ethereal quality to them after all.

Are they a wake up call to the beauty of nature and how we should respect it? Are they are bridge between heaven and earth?
Do they lead us to a pot of gold?
Are they portents of something better about to come into our life, as Noah believe when he saw the rainbow and knew it was the end of the rain which caused the flood in biblical times.

The rainbow was God’s sign of a promise to Noah he would not flood the earth again, although nowadays it seems he has forgotten that pledge made in Genesis 9 and is letting us know once more that we are not respecting the earth. Floods return every year in one form or another, along with fires, wars, and famines, and now we have pandemics too…
