NOPE… No one wants to hear your “buts,” or your “hards” for that matter!!! Quit it already! Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash

If you’d like to avoid direct contact with anything having to do with unpleasantness, I’ve got two words for you…

“But” and “hard”.

Here’s a smattering of examples of how well they work:

I need to start eating better…. BUT I have all these parties coming up!

It’s so HARD to find the time to do anything BUT work, clean, schlep kids around — I seriously don’t have ANY METIME!!!!!

I want to lose weight… BUT it’s going to be so HARD! (The double whopper!!)

These are exact phrases spoken by many a human I’ve had the pleasure of working with inside their home gyms, basements, living rooms, and gorgeous outside patios where we would devise plans on how to get them from where they are — unhappy, frustrated, feeling like a hot summer sausage wedged into shorts — to where they want to be — frolicking, happy, and breathing with ease in their summer shorts.

These clients knew they wanted to make a change yet basically thought to themselves, hmmmmm, let me think of what I really want to happen, and at the same time make a compelling argument as to why it’s going to really suck, and/or why
