Building a Business Directory? The “Sneaky” But Ethical Way to Sell Featured Listings (Everyone Wins)

Selling advertising space — in this case, coupons — is a great way to monetize the sidebar of your directory site listings.

It’s also an amazingly easy way to ethically persuade people to upgrade to a premium account, simply by dint of sheer (but genuine) pressure! If your regular/basic listings don’t include coupons, but your PREMIUM listings DO include a coupon/special offer — you can “force” competitors coupons (premium listings) to appear on the sidebars of basic members — and do so in a very straightforward TOS style way. (basic or free members get X — but featured/premium members get Y — which includes the creation of sitewide special offers to present to the public)
