A Retreat for Software Developers and Designers

For quite a few years now, the monastic and lay sangha of Plum Village have dreamed of skillfully bringing together technology and mindfulness. From our first trip to Google in 2011 to the gathering of leading technology CEOs in 2013, we have been planting seeds of mindfulness within Silicon Valley. Thich Nhat Hanh has presented a vision of a Plum Village mindfulness app that brings the very best of technology along with the very best aspects of mindfulness practice.

Breathe, you are online

We are planning a retreat, October 11–16, to help this vision manifest.

The retreat will be an opportunity for a team of app developers, designers, project managers, and experienced practitioners to live and practice together for 5-days alongside an international delegation of monastics.

Discover how to merge work and practice with other like-minded people. For this special retreat, we invite the participants to bring their laptop. In addition to mindful work opportunities, such as coding and designing mindfulness apps, the retreat will include our regular practices of sitting meditation, walking meditation, eating meditation, dharma talks, dharma sharing, and noble silence. You will have the opportunity to deepen your practice, discover methods for applying mindfulness into work environments, and contribute to our plans for a mindfulness app.

The retreat is limited to 50 participants, plus 10–15 monastics. We plan to balance the presence of developers, designers, project managers, and experienced practitioners.

The residential retreat will take place right in the heart of the Bay Area, minutes from San Francisco International Airport and a 5-minute taxi ride from BART. The Mercy Center is located at 2300 Adeline Dr in Burlingame CA 94010. The $990 registration fee includes tuition plus lodging in basic, single occupancy room, and simple vegetarian meals. Arrival day is Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 3pm and concludes at 12pm on Friday, October 16, 2015. We ask that participants plan to attend the entire retreat.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity — registration is now open
