Why kids should learn coding?
And how and where to start?
You think that your kid is not old enough to start learning to code? Think again? :)
Coding is a method which gives the opportunity to let our computers, applications, mobile phones and internet websites what to do. Some experts and tutors are calling it “the new literature”, a very important subject, which the kids should be aware of and know, in order to be distinguished in our rapidly changing world.
Nowadays, 4–5 years old kids can learn coding fundamentals even before they know how to write and read. The older ones (7–10 years old) probably already tried to code in different clubs, with mentors or online.
Dash & Dot help kids from the age of 5 to enter the coding world.
Learning coding prepares the kids for the world they live in today
There are many professions and opportunities that are related to direct code writing — developers, designers, QA specialists. There are still so many professions where knowledge about coding is a huge asset — engineers, scientists, researchers, industrial jobs. And this is far from being the main reason why kids should be studying programming.
Understanding the code explains the world
Nowadays, computers are used in almost all areas of our lives — communications, education, banking, health, media, information, security and even shopping. More and more people are talking about smart homes where computers run our electrical appliances, computers run our cars and monitor our health.
The kids are learning that in order to get to know the world they need to know a number of disciplines — mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, etc., but they should also be given the opportunity to understand how to communicate with computers, how to understand and use them.
Coding develops problem-solving skills and analytical thinking in people
The skills that kids acquire while learning the basics of coding, help them develop their thinking and encourages them to look for solutions to complex problems. These are skills applicable in many areas outside of the IT industry.
The development of analytical thinking in kids helps them to understand concepts such as — algorithm, conditional constructs, cycle, recursion. Even without knowing coding rules for a specific program language, they will be able to learn basic concepts.
Coding is fun!
Beyond all the good reasons mentioned so far for studying kids in coding, we must admit that creating their own games or animations is quite interesting and fun for them as well. Every child has a favourite game and each kid finds a missing element, a hero, obstacle or anything else in it. Here is the opportunity for kids to create, develop their creativity and fill the gap, to love the ability to create things.
How to introduce the world of coding to our kids?
The most important thing you need to know is that in order to get the kid into something new and different, you have to grab his/her attention. Every kid is unique and in themselves as many different things, but one thing is pleasing to all kids — the game. The most natural way to keep kids’ attention is through the play. There are many software, platforms and toys that are specially designed to help kids learn to code. They are interesting, entertaining, challenging and of course, without a drop of compulsion they teach kids into logical thinking. Perhaps each parent has taken down at least one such application to his child. But is that enough? Sometimes the availability of apps and online platforms is not enough. Every kid needs help to get into the world of coding.
With a lot of passion and innovation, we create an environment in which kids can be distinguished!
We at MindHub have devoted all our time and attention to developing a special training program. In it, we have set a number of tools to help us achieve our ultimate goal of helping kids develop their analytical and logical thinking by studying the basics of coding.
