Whether it’s a top-down, turn-based strategy game, a first-person shooter or a puzzle platformer, new indie games are released almost every single day. Finding the time to sift through, and play all the new indie games can be tough. Which ones will you like? We’re here to help you figure that out, and maybe even find your new favorite game!

This is our list of 5 Indies You Should Know! At the end of this article, let us know your thoughts and favorite indie games in the comments.

Cuphead by Studio MDHR

Cuphead by StudioMDHR — This is a classic run-and-gun action game, with a focus on creative, and very challenging boss battles. Cuphead was inspired by 1930’s cartoons — but don’t let the lightheartedness fool you; this game is meant to be a challenge!

Tasked by the Devil to collect on the souls of his casino debtors, you rely on your agility and creativity to survive the levels. And when you’re not collecting the souls of the bosses you fight, you can customize your character with items and abilities that will help with your next fight. Bonus: you can play co-op with a friend!

Shadow Warrior 2 by Flying Wild Hog

Shadow Warrior 2 by Flying Wild Hog — This FPS puts you in the shoes of Lo Wang, a deadly and off-beat fighter who uses anything and everything to take out his enemies, be it with gun, sword or magic. You’ll face dangerous Yakuza and terrifying demons, all the while laughing from all of the hilarious one-liners.

The character’s fighting style customization is fantastic: besides the endless slew of weapons, you also have mods for those weapons, mods for your armor, and you can enhance your skills through a creative card-based talent layout and that’s just the beginning!

Robothorium by Goblinz Studio

Robothorium by Goblinz Studio — What happens when Cyberpunk collides with a Dungeon Crawler? Robothorium, of course! With a gentle nod towards storylines akin to Detroit: Become Human and Deux Ex, you’ll enter into a future world where you will directly impact the course of a robot revolution.

This roguelike game has everything from deep strategy and party-based management to crafting and — a bonus for you Twitch streamers — Twitch chat interaction! Polished graphics, clever humor and a rich skill-tree and crafting system makes this game one of our current favorites.

Subnautica by Unknown Worlds Entertainment

Subnautica by Unknown Worlds Entertainment — Dive into the depths of an alien underwater world after your ship makes an emergency crash landing on an unknown planet.

Craft equipment, pilot vehicles, explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes — as well as cave systems — all while trying to — you know, stay alive! No pressure… right? You can easily spend hours exploring or building your base — the game is yours to shape how you want.

Tower 57 by Pixwerk

Tower 57 by Pixwerk — This game is a fast-paced, neo-retro, shooter that requires cooperation and strategy as much as it requires a whooooole lot of ammo.

As a member of a 3-character team, you’re sent in to discover what’s going on in the closed-off Tower 57, a dieselpunk megatower in the future. As you fight your way through the different levels, you’ll uncover hidden secrets, collect ammo and upgrade your cybernetics.

Bonus: you can switch between your characters to use different weapons and abilities! And don’t let the pixel graphics fool you — this modern game is a satisfying romp through the retro-future!

Our honorable mention list has 5 more indie games we think you’d like:

  • Spacelords by Mercurysteam, is a cinematic, team-based shooter, with humor and story aplenty!
  • Ash of Gods by Aurum Dust, is part visual novel, part turn-based, rogue-like combat, with a multiplayer option.
  • Tsioque by OhNoo Studio — is a clever point-and-click adventure, with beautifully drawn graphics and humorous attention to details.

Let us know your thoughts on these games in the comments. And if you’ve got a favorite indie game, share that with us, too!
