A Fight Against Desensitization

a poem about sadness as a tool against desensitization

My sadness is my friend — and that sounds depressing and ominous and grim, but to me, it reveals that I cannot pretend and that I’m not desensitized in a world where innocent blood is shed, genuine smiles are robbed and unsuspecting souls are betrayed.

So if you ever feel dismay, like the weight of the world is resting on your shoulders that day, just know that it’s a propeller to drive you forward and be a ray of light in a world that smolders pain and is so often swallowed by darkness.
