If you’re paying attention, you can already feel it in the air. The time of cold and misery is coming, literally and figuratively.

Some of us understand

People who pay no attention think we are still living in normal times, but we are not. Pre-Trump life in America was summer. Sure, sometimes it was too hot and there were mosquitoes and sunburns. It wasn’t perfect.

But now we’ve already entered into political autumn, and winter is inevitable. You can only survive by picking up and relocating to a place with a more moderate climate or by quietly hunkering down at home and stoically accepting the forces you can do nothing about.

The wealthy won’t escape all of this

A lot of problems respond to cash, and you can fix some of them by throwing money at them. But not all of them. Nobody will escape entirely.

In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, all of Narnia is trapped in continuous winter thanks to the rule of the evil White Witch. In GOT, we are repeatedly warned that “winter is coming.” This metaphor is overused precisely because it works so well!
