The United States Is a Business, and You’re Not Its Client

The rich keep the economy humming, so companies no longer need the rest of us as consumers

The United States has become a giant corporation that only caters to the wealthy.

To be a non-wealthy person living in America today is to be in a place not meant for you.

Here’s what it’s like. One day I wandered into a White House Black Market and left just as quickly, disappointed. I liked their clothing but it is not meant for me. Off to Old Navy I went, instead.

It was honestly fine.

As long as I can get some basic clothing at an affordable price, I don’t care if others want to spend much more.

But not everything has a cheaper option

And to live in the United States is to be forced to buy things you cannot afford.

I can’t go to the discount hospital or the low-cost power company or buy a scratch-and-dent car insurance policy. I have to pay the same high price as a millionaire.
