I’m an appalling timekeeper. I underestimate how long it will take me to arrive anywhere.

I routinely cut it fine catching trains and buses. I have missed plane flights. Last year I sprinted to a job interview in high heels.

My habitual lateness has caused myself (and others) unreasonable stress. I’ve been reprimanded at work and chastised by friends.

Yet ironically I am an early riser. I wake up with the birds and go for a walk or run before work. I enjoy writing in the mornings too. It simply takes me longer to get ready than I care to admit.

The truth is I could get up at 5am and still be late.

I hate arriving late and have tried to change. I lay my clothes out and pack my bag the night before. All my clocks are set 10 minutes fast. But no matter what “system” is in place nothing leads to permanent change.

It’s abundantly clear I am the problem — I am unrealistically optimistic about how long it will take me to get anywhere on the planet!
