No matter your background, your way of expressing yourself and doing things is unique. When you suppress your true nature you can feel as though you are playing a role in someone else’s movie.

Studies show that to be your authentic self you need to strip away all the conditioning and thought patterns you have accumulated throughout your life — this is easier said than done.

You are born into a family with certain beliefs, culture and traditions. Yet you choose your path for yourself. You find your own ideas.

The bottom line is:

You are not here on planet Earth to please others or fill space as an extra in someone else’s movie — this is your life!

Steve Jobs said it best:

Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life

In practical terms, a high degree of authenticity relates to five factors.

1. Know yourself

Self-knowledge is worth having. When you know yourself you have insight into your temperament. You know your values and preferences. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You understand what motivates you and why.
