Day of the Girl

Since posting my first blog post I have received a lot of positive feedback and support. You know what that shows me? It shows me that the people I have surrounded myself with are good people. It shows me that people want to talk about gender inequality. It shows me that what I am doing is worthwhile.

This morning I woke up to a text from my cousin across the pond in England. The message simply read, “It’s international day of the girl!” It sparked a million thoughts in my head, some good and some bad. I feel the need to acknowledge this important day. A day that is at the same time acknowledging me and my fellow women.

What is Day of the Girl you may ask. Well you should find out more information here and join them, and me, in starting the conversation.

I also encourage you to reflect on some important moments in history for gender equality. One important moment in the past 2 years was Emma Watson’s address to the UN to begin her #HeForShe campaign.

Or President Obama’s June 2016 speech to kick off the United State of Women movement.

Even Bud Light decided to take a stance on gender inequality with their 2016 commercial.

Kristen Bell and the Huffington Post tackled the issue in a recently released Youtube series.

If I leave you with anything today I want it to be this: #StartTheConvo. I’m not asking you to save the world, I’m just asking you to think and talk. It’s on all of us to start somewhere.

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments in starting this conversation.

For now, Happy International Day of the Girl!
