Zakhaddin from Oakland, California

Zakhaddin was 18 months old when he had to first run for his life.

At that time, Turkey had decided to rid itself of the largely Georgian populated border town where his family lived, resulting in a shift of the border and a mass flight for life.

After spending years floating as refugees, Zakhaddin’s family was placed in Oakland, California with only three thousand dollars to their names.

Now, years later, “Zak” as his friends call him, owns his own small Uber fleet, is studying fire science, and sees his life’s purpose as a reflection of his own life experience.

“I’ve been an alien in a lot of different places and have been misunderstood at every turn. That’s why it’s important that I spend everything I have trying to understand other people and help everyone be a little more human, no matter where they’re coming from.”
