So why, of all times, would I be writing about how to work from anywhere in the world?

A few reasons:

  1. Very few people are thinking about it, leaving ample opportunities for remote staples (like housing and transportation) as soon as the COVID-19 storm passes
  2. Airfares are dirt cheap and flexible right now, even for later in the year (MAKE SURE you know airline regulations before booking, just to be sure. The Points Guy is a great resource)
  3. Stable job opportunities and salaries in the United States are shrinking, making locations with significantly lower costs of living much more attractive (see Nomadlist for plenty of ideas)

You can even get started now building your freelancing business from your socially isolated basecamp. That’s the great thing about remote work. It travels with you anywhere.

The best news is that if you’ve got a marketing background or interest, then you’ve got more options than most people.

With that in mind, here are five marketing jobs that you can do from anywhere in the world (as well as resources to learn how to do them):

1. Copywriting

Job description:
Anytime you interact with a product or service, it’s a copywriter that has helped shape that experience through word. Copywriters are responsible for the text on everything from toilet paper packaging to Superbowl advertisements and everything in between (brochures, billboards, websites, emails, advertisements, catalogs).

2. Social Media Manager

Job Description:
Having worked for years as a marketing director, I can tell you firsthand how helpful a good social media manager can be. Social media can swallow marketing departments whole, eating up all of their time and energy. Often, they turn to someone outside the business to manage the social media madness. Responsibilities include designing a social media strategy for content and follower growth, creating new posts, managing illustrators and photographers, communicating with customers, and analyzing your efforts.

3. Graphic Designer

Job description:
Graphic designers and illustrators make the world a more beautiful place. It’s thanks to them that any consumer experience, be it online or in-store, is visually appealing. Graphic designers manage all kinds of visual projects from companies, including logos, websites, packaging, brochures, billboards, advertisements, catalogs, and more.

4. Translation

Job description:
Once upon a time I was a marketing director for a consumer electronics product being sold in over 30 countries around to world. You wouldn’t believe the amount of time I spent working with translators on everything from copy translation to in-country requirements for everything from packaging to website. Poorly translated copy can be a huge hit to a company’s brand, which is why they’re willing to pay someone to make sure it’s done right.
