“We plant CPU to benefit GPU Generation.”

In 2010, a monumental event in cryptocurrency history occurred. The first trade through Bitcoin was made. In 2011, Forbes said, “Bitcoin is ended.” However, Bitcoin showed the first dramatic upturned ostentatiously from $15 to $31. Due to its distinct growth potential, an increasing number of people had joined to crypto mining industries.

Beginning/Pros of GPU Mining

Before Bitcoin’s significant growth, it was enough to mine coins through CPU. Unfortunately, CPU’s computing speed and power couldn’t adjust to its rising hashrate and difficulty as the number of miners increased. This is because GPU mining has been released which enables parallel arithmetic process. Normally, graphic cards can be installed in 4-way, 6-way and even 8-way to maximize its computing power. It enabled ‘What-to-mine’ for miners to generally increase the profits. GPU can mine various kinds of coins. Any coin that can be mined using the GPU method can change its type at any time in the miner, so it’s better than the CPU or ASIC method. Moreover, once you need to upgrade the hardware, GPU mostly has high resale value compared to used ASIC or CPU.

Drawbacks of GPU Mining

If there is a bright side, there is also a dark side. Although GPU mining has several advantages such as easy installation and sourced, and good for complex computation, it has significant environmental issues. Graphic cards consume high electric power which drives to over-heating problem. Generally all kinds of computer components like main board, CPU, RAM, GPU, etc. are installed in side of the case. However, normal GPU mining equipment is located outside of it in need for constant temperature management. Also, Bitcoin (POW coin) energy consumptions are equivalent to 90% of Czech Republic and 45% of Netherland.

It cannot be directly compared to the GPU mining energy consumption but be indirectly understood the factors that GPU consumes tremendous resources causing environmental and economic damage.

As we said in the past article, mining industry has made dramatic development and put substantial effort to prevent environmental issues. Through this effort, a number of industries invented ASIC specialized in mining certain coin with low-energy consumption and rapid computing speed. Next time, we are going to inspect about the short heyday of FPGA and the 3rd generation of mining with ASIC! Stay Tuned!
