The Microsoft Innovation Centre opened four years ago with a clear commitment to bring world-class resources to Maltese software developers, IT professionals, university students, academic faculties and entrepreneurs. Over the past four years, the MIC has managed to honour this commitment and to-date, it has hosted over 140 start-ups, 800 workshops and training courses for over 10,000 students, teachers and professionals and Microsoft’s investment in the MIC over the past 4 years has been of over €2 million.”

This was stated by Panayiotis Ioannou, Country Manager for Microsoft Malta during an event to commemorate the 4th year of operations of the Microsoft Innovation Centre.

With a focus on Cloud Technology, the Microsoft Innovation Centre in Malta trains individuals in the latest technology and business skills, enhancing their employability prospects within the sector and incubates new start-ups. It also brings more direct support to the local industry such as developing applications and accesses information on Microsoft Technology.

The significance of having an MIC in Malta is enhanced when one takes into consideration that there are only 110 MIC’s in around 40 countries round the world.

“We want to encourage the community to be more active. With the MIC, we will create a venue where youths, students and entrepreneurs can network, share ideas and create companies,” added Panayiotis Ioannou.

In 2008, Microsoft had launched its Microsoft BizSpark program to provide entrepreneurs with free software, support, and visibility to help start-ups succeed. Eventually, in 2012, we launched the Accelerator Programme to help successful start-ups get in touch with potential investors and entrepreneurs.

Over the past year, Minely has benefitted from Microsoft BizSpark+ program and helped our company reach new goals.
