Even though Linux is gaining in popularity and it has shown to be a reliable and easy-to-maintain system, Windows rigs are still quite popular. In this post, we will show you how to set up a Windows node in 3 easy and straightforward steps.
✏️ What do you need?
To set up the Windows node you will need to prepare two things:
- Nvidia or AMD rig with Windows system.
- A registered account on minerstat.
🕑 Setting up a Windows node will take up to 5 minutes (including the download time).
1️⃣ Step 1: Download Windows node
We offer two types of download: installer that will guide you through the installation process and portable (ZIP) which you can extract with 7Zip or any other extracting software to start right away.
2️⃣ Step 2: Add a new worker
While you wait for the download to finish, you can add a new worker to your minerstat dashboard.
- Navigate to workers page.
- Click
Add new worker
. - Type worker’s name.
- Select the type of your worker - in this case, it is
Nvidia
orAMD
, depending on your rig. - Select the system of your worker - in this case, it is
Windows
. - Optionally add additional groups.
- Click
Add worker
.
Your worker will appear as offline, waiting for the connection to be established.
3️⃣ Step 3: Login to Windows node
After your installation has finished or you have extracted Windows node to the folder on your hardware, run minerstat.exe
- the minerstat Windows node.
The first screen will ask you to type in your Access key
and Worker name
. Both entries are case sensitive so they must be entered as defined on the dashboard.
Click Login
and the system will log you to your Windows node. Optionally you can set to start with Windows if you like (it is recommended to do that if you are using triggers that reboot your machine - otherwise the node won’t start on reboot).
When you are successfully logged in, click Start mining
and that’s it. Your Windows node is ready to use.
All additional configurations can be set remotely through the minerstat dashboard. First, define pool and wallet address in your address editor and then set default mining client with defined pools and wallets tags in worker’s config. You can find more detailed instructions here.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Be sure that you have used the correct name and access key - they are case sensitive so if the name is all lowercase, you need to enter all lowercase name in Windows node as well.
Also, make sure that you have selected Windows
as your worker’s system.
If you see the connection between Windows node and minerstat dashboard has been established, but the mining still hasn’t started, you probably haven’t configured the pools, wallets, and mining clients yet. For mining to work, you will need to define the pool and wallet on which you want to mine in your address editor and select and prepare the default mining client in your worker’s config. The whole process is explained in this tutorial.
