When will the fork happen?

At block height #11,700,000, which is expected to happen around 28th November 2020, Ethereum Classic will fork from Ethash to Etchash. The fork is called Thanos (or ECIP-1099) and will halve the size and growth rate of the DAG file. This means that even 3GB and 4GB cards will still be able to mine ETC. To learn more about the DAG file visit our DAG size calculator.

Which mining clients support Etchash?

We will update all mining clients that will support the upcoming Etchash algorithm. Here is a list of mining clients that are currently available on our systems. The list will be updated accordingly as developers release new versions and we add support for it.

msOS - Linux based mining OS

Where to mine?

Here is a list of our partner pools that support ETC mining.

⚠️ Don’t forget

If you have added ETC to the profit switch, the option won’t work anymore and you will need to re-add it after the fork. If you are currently mining ETC, don’t forget to include the auto-switch option in the mining client or update the config at the time of the fork.

💡 What about before #11,700,000 fork?

At the moment, Ethereum Classic’s DAG size already exceeded 4 GB, which means you can’t mine ETC with 4GB cards. lolMiner allows zombie mode mining with reduced hashrate. You can also read what to mine with 4GB GPUs.

⏰ Mining clients

Please also note that Claymore miner wasn’t updated recently and will stop working after epoch #385 is reached. This doesn’t apply only to ETC, but ETH as well. And this also doesn’t apply only to 3GB and 4GB cards, but to all cards. For ETC this happened on 6th November 2020. So make sure you are using Phoenix miner, TeamRedMiner, lolMiner, or any other miner that is supported for current DAG sizes of these coins and your hardware.
