This month, we welcomed Fang Dong, who joined the MING family as a Senior Community Manager at our Shanghai office. A German-born-Shanghainese, Fang was raised and educated in different parts of Germany, including Berlin, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe and Giessen, before moving to Singapore three years ago. She is fluent in German, English and Shanghainese. During her Bachelors and Masters, she researched the relationship between innovation and business success. The curiosity towards her Chinese roots and Chinese business culture prompted her to pursue an exchange at UIBE in Beijing, where she realised that she wanted to stay in Asia to cultivate her interest in the business and the region.

After her graduation, Fang joined Impact Hub, Singapore’s largest co-working community of techies, social impact entrepreneurs and creatives supported by Google for Entrepreneurs. There, Fang discovered her passion for helping members accelerate their business growth by connecting them to the right people and powering events such as the Tech & Humanity conference last September. The conference brought together 500 individuals discussing how tech can be harnessed for greater societal impact.

Fang is excited to be in working China during what she sees as a transformative phase: where there is an interplay between traditional and modern mindsets and business practices. She believes that the scale and speed of innovation in the Chinese market holds great potential for communities to learn from each other and participate in thought-provoking events that may result in impactful business opportunities in Shanghai. She aims to build and engage with a strong network of industry peers and cultivate a culture of learning to drive greater social good by involving technology.

“I’m excited to work with MING Labs because it allows me to be surrounded by a truly international team, with highly skilled individuals across Germany, US, Singapore and China, who are hungry to learn. The leaders of MING have an entrepreneurial mindset, are passionate about helping founders and enabling innovation in the industry.”

In her leisure time, Fang loves meeting new people, reading, travelling and food. To compensate for her love of food, she spends her free time doing Muay Thai and also swims.

If you are in Shanghai, Fang will be speaking at the Hubber’s Monday — Meet Community Builders in Asia meet-up, together with Jan Smejkal from Startup Grind Asia and Fengwei Zou from Impact Hub Shanghai, on 26th March at Impact Hub Shanghai. She will be sharing insights on differences in start-up community building between S.E.A and China. To learn more about her work and opportunities for community building in Asia, scan the QR code below on on WeChat and RSVP to register for the meet up, or reach out to Fang separately at fang.dong@minglabs.com.
