You’re known to be one of the most popular summer desserts in South Korea, so I just had to try you. It must’ve been the sweltering heat from a hot afternoon that nudged me to enter the place where you stay.

As I walked through the dessert shop doors, I felt enamoured by the crafty light fixtures and red hearts dangling from the ceiling. My eyes trailed towards the couches with patchy patterns, reminding me of my grandmother’s quilts. The more I gazed, the more detailed designs I discovered.

I immersed myself in the fresh scents of cut strawberries, washed blueberries and raspberries hovering in the air — what better treat than fresh fruits layered on shaved ice on a day like this.

“Mango Bingsu,” I said to the person behind the counter.

I observed him pile your shaved ice into a grey marble bowl and encircle mangoes on your outer edges. He then set a scoop of mango ice cream on top and drizzled mango sauce. If you couldn’t tell by now, I have a slight obsession with mangoes and so chose to try that version of you.
