Dear MS Word,

There are moments in our eight-hour working day when we feel lost and completely bored. Either that or we are just drained from fulfilling our responsibilities. It’s then when our minds stop functioning and we are desperate to talk to someone.

Sometimes our go-to person at work isn’t around. With work from home, we are isolated to such an extent that we don’t have anyone to listen to what we are going through. It’s then under the activity of journaling, you emerge. A safe, non-judgemental space where we can communicate exactly how we feel, all the while pretending to be busy.

Double Click and Start Afresh

Every time we click on you, there is a blank slate. An opportunity to start connecting with our thoughts and vent. It’s like a sign to let go of our past, and every day is a new opportunity.

You don’t judge but only listen. We can write pages while giving us a space to store our thoughts and release ourselves from all negativities. We use your clean, crisp digital pages to note down our smallest to most significant ideas.

Sometimes you save us from a lot of prying eyes. Like when we are just exhausted and in no mood to work, we can turn to you. And the best part is it’s free, and we don’t have to make an appointment. Morning, evening or night, you are available 24/7.

You Create Stories

So many ramblings that you have borne witness to have turned out to be exceptional blog pieces. Some have emerged into fabulous books that now people get to enjoy. That’s the beauty of words and you MS Word. You give us a platform to share our thoughts and vent, which then becomes a story that can inspire countless others.

You don’t even realise how you have helped people to save their jobs. How? As we process numerous things we need to do in a day, time management is an issue. When we don’t put things in perspective, 24 hours don’t seem enough. You remind us to sit down and make a list. This list puts things into perspective, gives us a timetable to finish our tasks and most importantly, gives us peace of mind.

You Are More Valuable Than You Think You Are

MS Word, you are underrated in the MS Office package. With MS Excel always taking away all the glory for its charts and numbers, you are equally important. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You have given the world contemporary writers and which leads to books that we readers get to enjoy. Because of these stories, we learn profound life lessons.

If now you also feel that you aren’t necessary, think again. You are unique, and people are grateful for your invention.

You are my therapist, and I am sure for others too. Without you, we would lose out on more trees that would leave us breathless. Your existence gives us a friend that we can turn to when no one is around. Thank you for just being you.

Yours truly,
An aspiring writer who is nothing without you.
