It’s almost over. Whether your candidate wins or loses, our great republic will move forward.

Here are some positives to focus on.

  1. The U.S. constitution, the oldest of its kind, will still be here tomorrow.
  2. Out of the over 11,000 amendments introduced by U.S. lawmakers, only 27 have been approved.
  3. This means our republic’s foundation will look very similar to itself in four years — regardless of our President elect.

Here are some ways I am going to simplify tomorrow.

  1. Turn off the television. The effects of stress on your body and behavior can be harmful. We all need a break.
  2. Politely excuse myself from political debate. The people will speak — that’s how our republic has worked for 240 years. Let us not take this for granted. We will have plenty of time to continue the debate in January.
  3. Pray for our new President. Regardless of who wins this election, he or she will face grave challenges in many areas with responsibilities far greater than I can understand. I will pray diligently for our new leader.

I find peace in the belief that our country is capable of positive change for the betterment of our fellow Americans. We have made much progress in our nation’s story, though we still have far to go. I look forward to being a part of that change — a change that will someday be in the history books read by my grandchildren in a more united United States.

Mahatma Ghandi famously said to “be the change you wish to see in the world.

That is what I plan to do.
