Us Vs Them

We have created a binary world where we believe that it is either us or them. Therefore we are in constant conflict.

It is so easy for us to judge that we are right and others are wrong. But the problem is that so do other people. What if we are all wrong?

“Why cannot we remember all the contradictions which we feel within our own judgement, and how many things which were articles of belief for us yesterday are fables for us today?” says Michel de Montaigne.

Can you think of a time when you have changed your belief? How silly does your old view of the world seem now?

Does it even matter if we are right if it isn’t going to lead to change but to an entrenchment of views from all parties concerned?

Rather than fighting and seeing who can shout the loudest, wouldn’t it be better to try and understand how someone can believe something so vastly different from your beliefs?

It doesn’t sound easy because it isn’t. To understand the polar opposite of what we believe may be the hardest thing in the world. But what if that was the only way to instigate change? What if taking on the perspective of your ‘enemy’ (with out the need to believe it) is the only thing that can save us from annihilation and despair?

One thing is for certain, the Us vs Them mentality will take us down a path strewn with losers. Nobody will ‘win’

Maybe it isn’t Us versus Them.

Maybe it is really just Us.
