2022 MLB Mock Draft 2.0
As we stand on the precipice of what could be a very transformative offseason, it becomes obvious that this upcoming draft could be a lot different than the drafts of the past year. Of course, the past three drafts have all been different, 2019 was the last of the 40 round competitive balance drafts, 2020 was the five round Covid-affected draft, and 2021 was the 20 round draft held in July in conjunction with the All-Star Game.
Anything can happen with the new CBA, draft picks could be traded, a lottery could be introduced, the free agent compensation rules could be amended yet again… the possibilities are basically endless. But obviously with no deal yet in sight and a lockout imminent, it’s best to look at this from a low expectation standpoint.
As of now, 31 picks are on the board, with the CB lottery picks yet to be announced. Two QO free agents have signed elsewhere, not affecting the current draft order, and barring the Mets signing another or a team hitting the luxury tax penalties or doing something Astros level illegal and/or stupid, there will be no changes.
Picks are based on organizational depth unless there is a clear connection. No write-ups until December. I will be using Baseball America and Prospects Live as resources. Here we go, #MockSZN Take 2.
